HM Motor Lighter X6 was a motorised barge of which the Royal Navy had over 200 during the First World War, intended for use as landing craft. On 24th January, 1918, X6 and X10 were being towed by HM Tug Desire in the North Sea. When two and a half miles off the Yorkshire coast, near Filey, they were confronted by a German submarine which proceeded to sink HM Tug Desire with gunfire and then laid mines on the two lighters to sink them. Fifteen men from both the tug and X6 lost their lives in this incident one of whom was Louis Rogercofsky. |
